Catalog of the temporary exhibition “Craft”, a showcase of photographs by the visual artist and photographer Margarida Correia, held at the Museum of São Roque in 2010, as part of the Contemporary Art Exhibition Cycle in São Roque. From the relationships she establishes between the space of the Church and Museum of São Roque and its inhabitants – the religious community, the museum staff, and security, among others – Margarida Correia constructs new stories around these experiences and routines. As Teresa Morna, director of the Museum of São Roque, states, “this project establishes an important dialogue between the daily life of a space that is simultaneously open to worship and museum-like, the dichotomy between the profane and the sacred, the material and the immaterial, the modern and the traditional.” The contemporary art cycle Perceptions of the Sacred, in which the exhibition “Craft” is included, aims to promote interaction and dialogue between sacred art and contemporary artistic production, supporting and publicizing initiatives and projects by young artists.
