"Marble" is a book by photographer Pedro Letria, it is a project that purposefully took him to Palestine, England, India, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and on which he worked for several years. From the autopsy room of the Institute of Legal Medicine in Lisbon to a police station in Diu, from a Bosnian Serb refugee camp to a logging company in Congo, from the maternity ward in Gaza to Lisbon's first erotic salon, "Marble," with 44 photographs, creates a unique narrative. Ian Jeffrey, one of the most renowned photography historians of today, a professor at Goldsmiths College in London, places this work not in the field of documentary photography in the sense that the term is usually used, but on another level: "The images reproduced here have something to do with work and everyday life, but certainly in insufficient quantity to qualify this book as a survey with documentary credentials." Instead, they introduce them to another type of work, more often associated with literature and, in particular, poetry. Poetry engages with the possibilities of language and asks us to reflect on what we know, and the more subliminal that knowledge is, the better the poem will be.
